Improve your classroom and online materials using visual and user experience design
More and more courses feature online components together with traditional face-to-face instruction. Many of us who make our own classroom materials already know the challenge of keeping students focused on the correct task. Now teachers also need to design online materials for students to use when we aren’t there to tell them what to do. New ways of thinking will help to understand student needs better and present information in a way that increases engagement with the materials we spend so much time making.
This session will review some of the current trends in visual design while introducing the principles of user experience (UX) design. UX design puts the user at the centre of the creative process: when and where will the user (our students) use the materials we make? How will they know what to do? We will learn simple techniques that will help students more effectively understand the materials we make and their satisfaction with our courses.
The session will be a mix of presentation, small group work and discussion. The information will be presented in English, but questions and discussion are welcome in French and German as well.
An internet-connected laptop, tablet or mobile phone is nice to have but not required.
